Opening Gunbarrel Highway felt like being dropped into the middle of an action movie—the pace was fast, and it took a moment to get oriented. Once I found my footing, I was all in.
The author does a great job of building tension. Moving from perspective to perspective, we’re introduced to a beleaguered everyday Joe, a spoiled socialite, a slimy politician, a sleazy journalist, and crooked cops. He orchestrates this cast in a plot that twists and turns in unexpected directions.
What struck me about the book was its cinematic quality. It reads much more like a script than a novel, which makes sense given that Bridges is also a screenwriter. With the tempo and style of a crime thriller, it’s a quick, entertaining read.
Overall, the descriptions made the book come alive. Readers sensitive to violence or sex should be advised that there are some gratuitous scenes crafted to grab attention—including the very first one. That said, they did the job of pulling me forward through the story.
I enjoyed Gunbarrel Highway and recommend it to anyone who likes reading crime, suspense, and thrillers.

Great review. It definitely was an attention-grabbing story and agreed: it would translate well to the screen.
